Christmas Hills is located between Kangaroo Ground and Yarra Glen, along Eltham-Yarra Glen Road north of the Yarra River. In 1904, the Australian Handbook described Christmas Hills as “an excellent health resort”. This is still an appropriate decription as there are numerous ways to access nature. Parks, horse riding and viewing areas are all easily available.
Tucked away in Christmas Hills, Sugarloaf Resevoir is a tranquil setting for a picnic or a stroll near the reservoir shores, offering wonderful views across the water. Some of the more popular things to do at Sugarloaf is fishing, sailing, walking and picnicing. For the more energetic, there is a 15km walk that circumnavigates the reservoir or the shorter Ironbark and Chris Phillips Walk. There are accessible picnic areas here and excellent viewing locations.
The iconic Yarra Valley Trails, previously known as Ponyland, offers fabulous experiences just out of Melbourne. A picturesque 300 acre property with an abundance of wildlife and rides to suit all levels of experience. With trail rides, pony rides, children’s holiday programs, residential camps and weekend clubs all available to be enjoyed.
