Chum Creek is set just five minutes out of Healesville, heading up the hill towards Toolangi. Set just upstream from where Healesville is situated gold was found at 'New Chum Creek' in about 1859. By 1860 'New Chum' was a village. However, due to the creation of tracks to the more distant Gippsland and Yarra Valley goldfields in the 1860's, the main settlement was formed at Healesville. Farming also flourished in this area and it provided Melbourne with a 'playground' from very early on.
Today this picturesque area is home to many accommodation houses that offer secluded, rural stays only a short drive out of the thriving township of Healesville. Walking tracks flank the road and it's a well used starting point for cyclists wanting a moderately steep ride in scenic surroundings.
