Omaru Alpaca Farm is cradled by three ranges. Kinglake towers immediately to the North and the Yarra Ranges form a spectacular Eastern view. The Dandenong Ranges are the view to the South East. The charming village of Hurstbridge provides delightful and numerous restaurants and cafes to sample a delicious selection of local fare. The farm is in close proximity to a number of wonderful boutique wineries away from the crowds and bustle of the major tourist trails, providing the discerning guest with a wonderful peaceful outing for individuals, couples and families. It is always surprising to visitors that this little piece of rural paradise is within such easy proximity to one of the largest cities in Australia.
Omaru has a graceful, friendly bunch of alpacas always expectantly ready for a nibble of hay or a bowl of chaff. Seasonally there are adorably leggy babies ducking under mum for a feed and peeping out at delighted guests. The farm opens monthly on the third Sunday for a regular open day between 11am and 3pm for a small fee. On arrival you are welcomed by hosts Rob and Sian and the ever hungry alpacas. Tour groups and special occasion (self catered picnic) parties or photography bookings can be arranged by appointment only. See Website for details.
Farm walks are a new feature of the farm experience. Guests who feel fit enough to make the steep climb back up, are free to wander along delegated lane ways and see the rest of the herd. Omaru specialises in coloured alpacas and there is a full spectrum to see and sometimes get a nuzzle or a cuddle.
The farm shop has a range of alpaca related products many of which are hand made yarn produced on the farm. Here you can grab a delicious hot chocolate or coffee and take it on to the veranda which overlooks the farm and stunning views of all three ranges.
