Tesselaar Tulip Festival (All Holidays)

The Tesselaar Tulip Festival has grown to become one of Victoria's most iconic tourist and family activity attractions, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of over a million spring flowers in bloom. The fields burst into colour each September school holidays and include over 120 different varieties of tulips alone.

This four-week family festival hosts various themed days and weekends including Turkish, Dutch, Food, Wine, Jazz and Irish along with eight days packed with school holiday fun for the kids.

Trout Fishing Workshop at Lillydale Lake (Saturday, 23 September)

Come along and join Vic Fish Kids ambassador Rex Hunt, who will attend each event and inspire young and old with expert tips and entertaining tales. Learn to cast, how to tie knots and what to do with a fish when you catch one. Free fishing tuition will be provided by volunteers from angling clubs and Fishcare.

The first 200 children to each event will receive a free rod and reel. There will be lots to do for the whole family including a free photo booth to immortalise that fish of a lifetime.

Teddy Health Checks at Healesville Sanctuary

Spring is here and these school holidays we’ve got cubs to meet, teddies to vet check and a photo exhibition to enjoy across Victoria’s three great zoos; Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo.

From 11am to 3pm every day, Dr Hart and our volunteer teddy doctors will be attending and mending many patients in the Australian Wildlife Health Centre. Spring Holidays at Skyhigh

Mayor’s Big Day Out (Saturday, 07 October)

Mayor, Cr Noel Cliff is inviting the community to a free school holiday event. There will be art, activities, entertainment and a community expo, showcasing the best of the Yarra Ranges and giving residents a chance to learn more about the area.

The gallery will be open with artwork on display, performances will be held in the main theatre, and everything at the event will be accessible, enjoyable and interactive for people of all ages and abilities. Children will be well-catered for, with a magician, children’s workshops and drumming activities available on the day, while adults can visit the community expo to learn more about community groups that call the Yarra Ranges home.

Montrose Playground Park (All Holidays)

This large recreation space offers sports ovals, sports pavilion, open space, bushland areas, tennis courts, netball courts and of course the famous Montrose community playground.

The community-built all abilities playground has lots of play experiences, with a large climbing net. This attractive bushy location has a sensory garden, animal sculptures and shade trees on three sides. If the kids get hungry, wander 100m down the road to IGA, bakery or fish and chips cafe.

Loose Ends (Saturday, 07 September)

Loose Ends is a theatrical adventure that feels like opening the magic box of a bygone trickster. Developed and performed by Paris-trained, multi-disciplinary circus artist and quirkologist Jens Altheimer, Loose Ends makes science and technology cool – it inspires kids and adults alike to tinker with machines, and make their own contraptions and inventions. Audience participation is required!

Loose Ends features contraptions, tricks and quirky characters, but it is also a story about friendship, acceptance and loyalty. There is plenty of entertainment with a dose of emotion in a story about a man who thinks he can organise all his life in boxes, well, he will have to learn a big thing about real friendships.

Junior Chocolatier Classes (Wednesday, 27 September) & School Holiday Fun (All Holidays)

School holidays are always sweet at the Chocolaterie.

Free entry, free tastings, Chocolatiers to watch at work plus hundreds of chocolate creations to marvel at. Strawberry Time at Gateway Estate

Yarra Valley Gateway Estate have strawberries available for U-pick. Gateways U-pick strawberries are all grown indoors out of the cold and rain, so there’s no need to put on your gumboots and old farm clothes to pick them. 

Entry is free for strawberry picking and you may pick as little or as much as you like, you only pay for what you pick. Strawberries are charged by weight at $16 per kilogram. Join in the KSI Kids Strawberry Investigation and search the patch for clues! 

Strawberries are grown using minimal sprays and chemicals, we actually buy good bugs to control the bad ones, doing this helps us to maintain a healthy balanced environment.
