For a terrific day or overnight visit to the snow, Find Your Self in the towns of Marysville at the base of Lake Mountain, or Warburton at the base of Mount Donna Buang. These mountains are the two closest Alpine regions to receive snowfall during winter, and are an easy 90- or 60-minutes drive (respectively) from Melbourne. Both are situated in the beautiful Yarra Ranges National Park.
Lake Mountain is well known for its cross-country skiing. Feel the cool air brush your face as you discover the valleys of the snowgum woodlands along some 30 kilometres of ski trail that catering for all abilities (beginner to advanced).
Toboggan or tube down the slopes, throw snowballs at your friends and family, make snowmen, or become an expert with a ski lesson. You can enjoy the resort facilities that offer everything you will need to keep warm, dry and well nourished.

Perhaps you just want to see snow for the first time, the free access offered at Mount Donna Buang is ideal for the family on a budget. You can enjoy the fun of snowplay and when you’ve had enough you can then experience the friendly hospitality on offer in Warburton with the crystal clear waters of the Yarra River running through.
The Victorian ski season generally runs from the first weekend in June through to September depending on the season, check local guides for snowfall activity.
When the snow melts
Return to the mountains in the warmer months and see the trails transformed into great walking and mountain bike tracks. Escape the summer heat on relaxing walks to see the bright wildflowers and views of the Yarra Valley and sits amongst the stunning mountains of the Great Dividing Range.
